Plant Discovery Walk
Hosted by DeSoto State Park
Led by Robert Wilson with Seven Pines Survival. This walk is designed around creating a materia medica, herbarium, and a plant press while learning about your local plants. Each walk will last around 3 hours and will focus on select plants. Participants will identify the plant, draw the plant, take a small sample to press, and use the senses to discover the properties of the plants.
A Materia Medica Journal, Herbarium Journal, and a Flower Press kit is available for a small fee; the journals are designed as "workbooks" to fill in information.
Walks will occur at different locations throughout the year. Typically, a plant won’t be covered more than once at any location per year. This will allow students to choose where they want to learn about plants, and what kind of plants they want to learn about. Each walk will cover a specific topic such as edible trees, toxic plants, lawn weeds, etc.
