The 2019 Extreme 10k, 5k and Camo Fun Run will be held at Joe Wheeler State Park on March 23, 2019.
Part of Alabama State Park's mission is to operate and maintain recreational facilities; and to extend the public's knowledge of the state's natural environment. We strive to continue this mission and provide the public with access to our natural resources. In 2013, we started an annual Extreme 5K Race called "Running Buck Wild". The name stems from the abundant wildlife at Joe Wheeler State Park such as the Whitetail Deer. This 5K takes runners across different terrains such as hiking trails, asphalt, and gravel roads. The race will start in the picnic area at Shelter 2, go through hiking trails, through the campground, around more trails, and back to the picnic area to finish. In some areas, runners will run alongside the great Tennessee River. Runners will enjoy the natural beauty of Joe Wheeler State Park.
